Travel & Art for the Ages

Welcome to my blog highlighting famous Art through the Ages – & Travel – as it relates to our lives during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-2022.

Purcell-Cutts House (Art & Travel) Minneapolis, MN USA

The Purcell-Cutts Prairie-style House is an architectural gem hidden in plain sight in a vibrant Mpls. neighborhood by Lake of the Isles. This 100+ year old “modern” house, owned by the Mia (Mpls. Institute of Art), recently reopened after pandemic shut down. Get the “inside” scoop including photos unique to this blog post!

J. J. Hill House (Travel) St. Paul, MN USA

We toured the majestic James J. Hill House, St. Paul, MN, on a recent Travel Date to places in our Backyard. The massive scale, fine detail and ingenious mechanical systems of this Gilded Age mansion recall the powerful presence of James J. Hill, builder of the Great Northern Railway. Enjoy photos and details on this blog.

Weisman Art Museum (Art & Travel), Mpls. MN USA

The Weisman Art Museum (WAM), designed by Frank Gehry on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA is a gem inside and out. Overlooking the beautiful skyline of downtown Minneapolis and the magnificent Mississippi River, it faces west and perfectly reflects the ever-changing light of the setting sun. Como Conservatory & Zoo (Travel): St. Paul, MN USA

Como Park Conservatory & Zoo are on my list of Top Ten places for a visitor to St. Paul, Minnesota. This blog highlights the gardens (sunken, fern, Zen and bonsai) in the Victorian architectural conservatory as well as the authentic Japanese garden, tropical encounters, zoo, amusement park and historic carousel experienced in our recent Travel Date to sites in our back yard!
