Happy 100th Birthday Charles Schultz!

Saturday, November 26th, 2022, would have been the 100th birthday of Charles M. “Sparky” Schultz – best known as creator of the famous and timeless Peanuts comic strip.

In honor of the occasion, syndicated cartoonists across the country will pay tribute to the Peanuts creator in their own comic strips on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Watch for it!

Schulz announced his retirement in November of 1999 following a stroke that impacted his vision and memory. He died on February 12, 2000, one day before his final Sunday strip was published. It was his 17,897th Peanuts strip!

20+ years after his death, his legacy lives on. Reruns of his strips continue online and in many papers today including our local paper. “A Charlie Brown Christmas” movie is a classic. New anthologies are still being published. New TV and movie adaptations continue to delight us all. Still a fan favorite, Snoopy has his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.

Schultz is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota and in his honor, statues of his cartoon characters have been created and placed around the city. On our Travel Date on 09 July 2021 to Rice Park, downtown St. Paul, Skip and I experienced sculptures of Peanuts characters. You can enjoy that blog at Charamana.com/2021/07/14/landmark/

In honor of the 100th birthday of their creator, enjoy these Peanuts sculptures!
