Hennepin Island: Minneapolis, MN USA (Travel)

I love islands! We explored Hennepin Island on our Mississippi River Travel Date. Diverse and small, it includes several parks: one close to the fall with a hydroelectric plant and, next to it, a park on the bluffs named for Fr. Hennepin with trails and steps to the shoreline. Guthrie Theater & Neighbors, Minneapolis, MN USA (Art & Travel)

The Guthrie Theater, Gold Medal Park and the Memorial to the tragic 35W Bridge collapse (2007) were included in our Mississippi River Travel Date. Just a few steps from the Stone Arch Bridge and the Heritage Trail, these 3 significant, though unrelated, sites are well worth this side trip. Stone Arch Bridge, Mpls. MN USA (Art & Travel)

The Stone Arch Bridge – a Minneapolis icon – crosses the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis and St. Anthony Falls. Truly unique to our city, it is a timeless piece of architecture and history. Built in 1883 by railroad magnet, James J. Hill, it became the city’s most important and impressive railroad bridge. It was the starting point on our recent Travel Date as we continue to explore the wonderful sites in our back yard. This blog shares fascinating info, photos, and artwork.

St. Anthony Falls, Minneapolis, MN USA (Travel)

The Falls of St. Anthony are the focal point of the Mississippi River as it flows through downtown Minneapolis, MN USA. We continued our exploration of the world out our backdoor on our recent Travel Date, crossing the river on the Stone Arch Bridge on the Heritage Trail. This blog shares interesting info, photos, and artwork revealing the falls as a “falls,” and its journey to becoming a vibrant dam.

Arb Adventure: MN Arboretum, Chanhassen, MN USA (Art & Travel)

Minnesota Arboretum “the arb” is a great Minneapolis, MN, Travel Date for any season, any age. 1,200 acres are filled with beautiful landscape and flowers, ponds and waterfalls, and Chinese, Japanese, and sculpture themed gardens. Children of all ages can enjoy a Maze Garden and Green Play Yard. Drive, walk or take a tram around the grounds. Pair it with a tour of Prince’s Paisley Park, just down the road. 9/11 – New York City Remembered

9/11…New York City…Both conjure up strong memories in my mind and emotions in my heart. As scenes of the horrors of 9/11 have been reviewed on this 20th anniversary, I flash back to memories of my personal times in NYC. As a young woman – I lived and worked in Manhattan. Years later, as a tour leader – I led groups of students to explore this great city. In this blog, I revisit and remember this city and reflect on its great resiliency.
